Vienna Calling
I had a great time in Vienna meeting people like Casey Fenton (founder of CS) Tripple T, Gadget and lots of other “celebrities” in CS. I also made a lot of new friends and found a new wonderful city.
The Friday was mainly spent with the ambassadors forum for CS, listening and learning on how the organization works, what the future plans are and what the main goals are currently. I was definitely impressed with how professional the lead team of CS is!
In the evening we had a big party, they had booked a whole club only for CS, I heard rumors that we where 700 people there… and another 300 in cue just to get in, crazy!
During Saturday I was chilling with my host during most of the day, Anna was just a wonderful person and we had so much to talk about. I the evening I met up with the CS crowd and we went to this nice little restaurant “12 Apostelkeller” where we had a “real” Austrian dinner with lots of pork and sauerkraut… interesting but almost a bit too salty for my taste. During the night we had a tour of the city monuments… was quite cool to go and see everything at midnight… the monuments where lit up by lights and our guide was very knowledgeable… fun!
On Sunday there was a CS barbecue and I went swimming in Danube… cold but not too bad… warm up for the canoeing trip in August :D.
Monday was vegan day for me… no meet in sight for the whole day… and Tuesday… well we that lead to a hospital visit as you could see in my last post :-S
I could also mention the catacombs under the cathedral in Vienna… they actually give tours showing the tourists bones from old skeletons there… not quite sure how tasteful that really is but I guess it does give a nice revenue to the church coffers…
Appendix removed
Hi all!
If you wonder why you haven’t heard from me in a few days it is because I was starting to feel a bit sick during my travels back from Vienna. When I came home I had a quite high fever and my stomach was really hurting so I went to the hospital where they (after about 12 hours of testing) concluded that they needed to remove my appendix (blindtarm in Swedish). This operation was performed yesterday and they let me come home today.
I am feeling well after the circumstances but am a bit weak right now. (There was also some infections spreading out from the appendix so now I am on a anti-biotics cure…)
The good side is of course that you can only take away your appendix once, so now I don’t need to worry about risking having to remove it during my travels in some remote country that might have less well built out medical services than Sweden does… the doctor even told me that astronauts have their appendixes removed “just in case” before space-travelling π
I will tell you more about my adventures in Vienna when I am feeling a bit better, this was mainly to give a hint on why I haven’t replied to that many e-mails lately π
Arriving in Vienna
Hi all!
I have just arrived in Vienna tonight. At the airport I bumped into this Pakistani guy who was really helpful and even took a later train just to be able to show me exactly how to get to where I was going by the fastest route… really cool to meet people like that!
Right now I am at my host Anna’s place. The room is quite small, we can just barely fit in two people… and we need to be a bit quiet since she isn’t really allowed to have people here, but definitely an adventure. We are having a great time and seems like we will spend the whole night talking… great π
Last day at work!
Today is going to be the last day I am working at Procter & Gamble. I was up last night baking “kladd-kaka” for about 50 people… I hope they will like it π
I also noticed that time is never enough, there are just a million things i should prepare before I leave and even though I have been planning for quite some time I feel that things are piling up now in the end.
Photos taken of my appartment, tomorrow it will go up for sale!
Hi,
A bit excited about putting my appartment up for sale now… if I manage to get back roughly what I paid for it I will be able to let go fo yet another tie and be even more free. (I am expecting to loose at least 100.000 SEK (~10.000Β EUR) compared to what I bought it for… but I do fear that the market will collapse sometime in the fall so it would probably be wise to sell if I can do it at a reasonable price… unfortuantely I did buy when the market was at a peak so let’s see what happens π
If not I have already had quite a few people interested in renting it from me…
Hmm, might put up some photos of the appartment and my car among the photos just as a reminder of what I am leaving behind π
Most of my vaccines are taken!
Hi,
I think that I have been immunized against almost all kinds of things that I could be protected agaist now. I only have a few more rabies shots left and then I should be good to go… lucky I have almost 3 weeks before the real “take-off” so to speak. I got the vaccines from the nice people at cityakuten.
Great fun at Barbecue this weekend!
Hi,
This weekend I arranged a Barbecue party with the help of some new and old friends in CS at the same time as I was moving out of my appartment… was a quite buzy day starting at 8 in the morning picking up the cart for the moving boxes and then moving until 5 pm when the party started.
Everything worked out quite well though and even though it was only 10 degrees outside more than 120 people showed up for the barbecue! I’ll put some pictures in the photo-section soon π
