The first stop after Sweden was Slovakia (Bratislava). The weather was cold and chilly but I had set my mind to get to Oradea in the same day (two countries away in Bulgaria). It took me from 2 pm to 1 am to get there (11 hours of hitchhiking) and I did meet up with some cool dudes (like the Checks who where in a bus-trip and really couldn’t understand the word “No” to drinking… in the end they did give up though :D)

A concert in Oradea… the group was called Republic and was connected to the Hungarian party… in Romania… a bit confusing at first when everyone starting singing the Hungarian national anthem… and they where all Romanians…

Another of those stopovers in Sweden. Had time to party with my student orchestra, celebrate my birthday, attend some CS-meetings. Meet up with friends etc.
The first thing I did when I came home was to attend a party with the Orchestra Kårsdraget… here some of the girls are performing a nice song 🙂

After the mountains I was supposed to make a quick stop in Oradea on my way north towards Krakow… but it turned out that my host there was so good at persuasion that I stayed one day extra… not quite sure how it happened 🙂 Had a great time hanging out with my host and a surfer she had from the US staying at the same time.
One of those rare times where EVERYONE actually smiles at the same time on the photo… must have been because we had such a great time!

Thanks to Florina I got a tip of a cool guy that lived in the middle a rural area near to a national park. He has a very liberal view on hosting, actually when you come to the door it says” Welcome in, it is open… I am probably not at home :-D” so… he kind of hosts people even if they don’t ask him… or meet him or anything like that… but if he IS around he will give you food as well… like this delicious food we had when we where there. (There where people from all over the world staying there… pretty cool!) He also had a mountain cabin within the park where also stayed for two days with lots of different people… cool!

After Bucharest I went to Brasov. I met up with these two CS:ers there who where really nice and showed us around the whole city. (Anca decided to come along for a while after Bucharest).

My stay in Bucharest was filled with everything from meeting new people during an open museum night to revisiting old friends from Stockholm. I had so much fun that I ended up staying a few days more than I had planned to… not so much due to the city but rather due to all the nice people I met…
My first host Vera to the left and some friends of hers… the guy to the right really liked Sweden, he even had ordered a plate to his car with the letters “SWE” 😀
One of Ceausescu’s more crazy projects… to build a huuuge house for himself. (Actually the only building larger used to be the Pentagon in Washington DC…)

It was quite interesting to go from Serbia to Romania… in the end I actually stayed one night in Bulgaria on my way… tried everything from hitchhiking with a group of gypsies (who turned out to be really cool and nice people). To having to walk almost 15 km in the middle of the night in Bulgaria when I couldn’t find a ride… (but I finally did). To being offered a blowjob by a guy in the morning in Bulgaria when crossing over to Romania (I politely declined…) Well, then Craiova turned out to be a great place. Met these fun girls that showed me a round a bit in the beginning and have been staying with this cool dude that have really been the perfect host… have had so much fun!
Later on in the night when we where going back to his place we met up with a third guy who say that we had two guitars with us and suggested we should go to a park and play for a while… it ended up with us sitting there for several hours just playing… really cool!
I was stuck with a guy on the road for about 40 minutes while these road workers was shoveling dirt down on the road (and look at the safety of that… just next to the edge, welcome to Serbia 😉
A truck driver bought me lunch (and I saw these nice grapes hanging in the restaurant… so I had to take a photo… after I had tried one of course :D)
Going towards the crossing to Romania (just after the guy had offered me that blowjob) I came cross a group of goats on the road….
There are loads of dogs running around everywhere in Craiova… but they are really friendly

Hi guys, have spent the last couple of days in Belgrade… just a fantastic city… I am so amazed with the people who are extremely friendly and helpful to strangers. If you stop someone on the street to chat or ask for directions they always take the time and perhaps walk with you a part of the way to make sure you get right… amazing!
During my hitchhiking over from Sarajevo I had a long chat with a truck driver that had been a tank commander during the war. Was very interesting to hear the horrors of war from someone who actually had been there destroying all those buildings I saw on the way… (He had been leading a division of 10 tanks and destroyed several villages… something he was very sad and embarrassed about).Or as when my first host in Belgrade lost his hole company when the war started and had to leave the country since he was a deserter… so many peoples live changed due to that war.
There where a LOT of hitchhikers outside Sarajevo… definitely another culture here (and a lot of people picking people up as well…)
You can’t really see it here, but behind these trees is something as special as a catholic and protestant church built together into one building… cool!
My Serbian friend had a passport issued in 2008… and it still says Yugoslavia…

A short stay in Sarajevo turned out to be a bit longer than first expected. I met a lot of nice and fun people and just had to hang around for a while longer. We have been doing some sightseeing, I have gone to a museum or two, seen the spot where the Habsburger heir was shot, a museum on the War in the 90’s, a football game between Bosnia and Turkey on big-screen (people here really needs Hero’s badly!). Gotten a bit of a sense for the culture in the country… definitely a more macho mood than I am used to and… well… just seen things 🙂

Since Bosnia is a Muslim country they had a lot of really cool Mosques, and since it was Ramadan almost no-one was drinking alcohol even in pubs (there are some Christians in town as well… but mainly Muslims)
I love this picture because of the windows… the top left is a really new wooden window, the two ones to the right are really old murky wood and down to the left is one ornamented in gold and is really fancy… and yepp… there are of course the traditional bullet holes in the wall as well…

Me, the Swiss girls and Alen our local Bosnian guide (CS:er). He was really cool and showed us around the whole town and told us a lot about life in Sarajevo.
Watching the football game Bosnia/Turkey (it was a draw which was really good for Bosnia… there where a lot of firecrackers going on when there was a goal :-D)
Afterwards everyone was celebrating here… look at the guy to the left climbing up the building to join the others standing on the top of the balcony… these guys where crazy… 😀
One not so lucky guy fell down and hit his head… so the police is there until the ambulance arrives… the police where quite brutal btw… wouldn’t like to go to a Bosnian prison…
